Training, Tools, and Technical Assistance for Implementing Guidelines for Managing Substance Withdrawal in Jails
The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) and National Institute of Corrections in 2023 released Guidelines for Managing Substance Withdrawal in Jails: A Tool for Local Government Officials, Jail Administrators, Correctional Officers, and Health Care Professionals, a compilation of recommendations for systematically identifying individuals who are at risk for substance withdrawal and determining the appropriate level of monitoring and medical care. This document details training and technical assistance available through the BJA-supported COSSUP Resource Center to support jails’ efforts to connect individuals to evidence-based substance withdrawal and substance use disorder services and facilitate continuity of care upon community reentry.
