Ty Bechel is the Founding Executive Director of Amare, NFP, a recovery community organization (RCO) that provides recovery support services to the Illinois Riverbend and Metro-East. His recovery journey started when he realized that he had a problem after struggling with it for awhile, getting involved with law enforcement, and attending drug court. He shares details of his personal journey to recovery, during which he found himself trying to minimize his use and do things his way, while also wanting to do better. He provides information on the treatment center he attended, looking into intergenerational factors related to substance use disorder, and how everyone's recovery journey is different.
