Champions of Recovery: Brian Dubray and Rob Snyder
Brian Dubray is Chief of Police and Rob Snyder is the Community Service Officer of the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians Police Department. The Community Service Officer Program originated out of the the COVID pandemic when an increase was noticed in behavioral health or mental health conditions and substance use disorders. The goal of the program's implementation was to expand the role of law enforcement in being able to help people get access to health systems and substance use services that they critically needed. The program takes a nontraditional approach using a wraparound service to get all of the police department's state and federal partners involved at the front end to address issues before they become a law enforcement problem or a repeat offender problem. This, in turn, alleviates issues that tie up traditional law enforcement officers in doing their regular duties.
