Law Enforcement and First Responder Deflection Pathways to Deflection Case Studies Series: Active Outreach Pathway
During active outreach, a first responder intentionally identifies or seeks out individuals with substance use disorders to refer them to or engage them in treatment. Outreach is often conducted by a team consisting of a clinician and/or a peer with lived experience. The target population for the active outreach pathway to deflection is individuals in crisis or with non-crisis mental health disorders and/or substance use disorders or who are homeless. Learn more about how the pathway works and the ten critical elements of active outreach initiatives. Case studies are offered from Cumberland County, New Jersey; Morris County, New Jersey; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Rhode Island; and Story County, Iowa.
