Supporting Continuity of Care Throughout Justice Involvement: Initiating and Maintaining Treatment Upon Entry Into Jail (Part One of a Three-Part Series)
An important aspect of reducing substance use disorder (SUD) and overdose rates is ensuring that people can begin or seamlessly continue substance use treatment upon entry and incarceration in a correctional facility and upon reentry back into the community. However, many people face numerous challenges or disruptions to treatment as they transition to and from a jail or prison and their community. This webinar series will explore challenges that people with SUDs may face related to accessing or maintaining treatment, as well as showcase promising or evidence-based practices and programs across the nation that address these challenges.
Upon completion of the webinar series, participants will be able to:
- Describe the importance of quick access to treatment in correctional settings to address overdoses, overdose deaths, and untreated SUDs.
- Discuss the importance of in-reach services.
- Describe effective reentry planning processes for people experiencing SUDs.
- List strategies, policy recommendations, and ways to ensure continuity of care.
