Combating opioid abuse and diversion is a priority of all PDMPs. Several states have passed laws and regulations restricting the prescribing of opioid prescriptions for both acute and chronic pain. The restrictions enumerate specific medical conditions, the maximum number of days' supply, and medical conditions where such restrictions do not apply.
