West Virginia Program Takes a Multifaceted Approach to Juvenile Opioid Misuse Prevention and Education
The Berkeley County Council, the Berkeley County Recovery Resource Center, and the Berkeley Day Report Center studied statistics about substance use disorder and agreed that an increase in education about the dangers of substance misuse was desperately needed. After securing COSSAP funding in 2019, JOTIPP was launched in 2020. The program includes a “Too Good for Drugs” curriculum that addresses the “why” of substance misuse, sponsorship of a peer recovery group for justice-involved juveniles, and a free half-day summer camp program for middle school-aged children.
